Guy has broad commercial experience spanning class actions, banking and finance, building and construction, insurance, professional negligence, mass tort litigation, franchising, consumer protection, contract and Corporations Act disputes. He has acted for plaintiffs and defendants in class actions jurisdictions across Australia and has been appointed as contradictor by the Supreme Court of New South Wales and the Full Court of the Federal Court of Australia on issues relating to class actions. Guy has been named in the Doyles Guide list of leading Class Action Barristers in the last three consecutive years (2022-2025).
Guy was admitted to the New South Wales Bar in 2005, having practiced as a solicitor at Herbert Smith Freehills, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Legal Aid Commission of New South Wales.

Atlanta Building Pty Ltd v Abela (No 3) [2025] NSWSC 730 (appeared on short notice leading J Rogers for the second defendant in a building dispute. Succeeding in challenging several heads of damage, substantially reducing the (uncontested) liability of the second defendant).
YAF Master & ANOR v S&P GLOBAL, Inc. (claim for deceit against S&P in relation to its rating of US residential mortgage-backed securities in the years immediately preceding the global financial crisis. Settled before trial in July 2025 for confidential sum. Led by R Dick SC and leading D Wong and S Murray).
Elliot-Carde v McDonald’s Australia Limited [2023] FCAFC 162 (appeared leading B Yin as Court appointed contradictor before the Full Court on a point of law).
Ashita Tomi Pty Ltd as trustee for Esskay Super Fund v RCR Tomlinson Ltd trading as RCR Tomlinson Ltd [2023] NSWSC 344 (shareholder class action in which I appeared for the second defendant leading A Edwards. The proceedings settled as against the second defendant prior to trial).
TW McConnell Pty Ltd as trustee for the McConnell Superannuation Fund v SurfStitch Group Ltd [2018] NSWSC 1749 (appeared unled as Court appointed contradictor in relation to a controversial settlement approval application).
Wigmans v AMP Ltd (2021) 270 CLR 623; [2021] HCA 7 (appeared as senior junior in team led by C A Moore SC (now Moore J of the Federal Court of Australia (FCA)) in an appeal to the High Court concerning contested stay application between duplicative class actions. Having succeeded in defending the High Court challenge I appeared for the plaintiff in the shareholder class action that followed in a team led by Moore SC. The class action settled just prior to trial for $110 million; Komlotex Pty Ltd v AMP Limited (No 4) [2023] NSWSC 1378.
Jones v Treasury Wine Estates Limited (shareholder class action, appeared for the applicant, led by Jeremy Stoljar SC. Settled pre-trial for $49 Million).
Mitic v OZ Minerals Limited (shareholder class action, led by M.B.J Lee SC (now Justice Lee) for the applicant. Settled at commencement of trial for $32.5 Million).
More & More v Endeavour Energy (class action concerning the 2013 Blue Mountains (Springwood) bushfires- settled prior to trial. Appeared led by Anthony Payne SC (now Payne JA) for the plaintiffs on instructions from insurers pursuant to rights of subrogation. In this role I appeared un-led for several insurers at the Springwood bushfire coronial inquiry).
Richards v Macquarie Bank Limited (class action concerning Macquarie Bank’s role in funding investments in the failed financial advisory firm, Storm Financial Limited. Appeared for the applicant led by Douglas Campbell SC and on appeal (against settlement approval)l by R Merkel QC. Settled for $82.5 million after 3-month trial while judgement was reserved.
Perpetual Trustee Victoria V Yap [2010] NSWSC 761 (appeared for Ms Yap unled and successfully raised defenses under the Contracts Review Act 1980 (NSW) and the Consumer Credit Code in order to resist orders for repossession of her home).
