Dr Kai Luck was called to the New South Wales Bar in September 2018.  He practises from 13th Floor St James Hall primarily in:

  • equity and trusts;
  • corporate law;
  • insolvency; and
  • commercial law (including contract and property matters).

Before being called to the Bar, Kai worked as a solicitor for 7 years at several top-tier international law firms, where he built a strong corporate and commercial law practice with particular specialties in directors’ duties, continuous disclosure, insolvent trading, insider trading, takeovers and schemes of arrangement, corporate restructuring and liquidators’ recovery of unfair preferences and uncommercial transactions.

Kai also previously worked as a lecturer in equity and trusts law, civil procedure and commercial law at The University of Queensland.

Kai graduated with First Class Honours in his undergraduate law degree from The University of Queensland in 2007 and was awarded his Doctor of Philosophy in corporate insolvency law from the same institution in 2010. 

He is also admitted as an Attorney of the New York Bar and spent a year serving as the policy advisor to the former Commonwealth Assistant Foreign Affairs Minister.   

Kai will be releasing a book, The Directors’ Handbook: Key Tools for the Corporate Kit Bag, through Thomson Reuters in early 2019.  He is a regular contributor to professional conferences and journals and has previously also been published in The Australian and The Australian Financial Review.

Kai accepts briefs from instructing solicitors as well as direct access briefs.
